dd made her first clothing choice today. Picked out a dress from a pile of clothes I was sorting, shouted at me and waved it until I put it on her, then gave a delighted grin, a brief war-wiggle then crawled off.
She's only just a year .... I don't think I'm ready for a girl...

Yes, this is what they are like. But it is very sweet.

floatinglikealeadballoon - that I could cope with a bit better - I can vividly remember telling my mum that if I ever cared more about clothes than having fun she could kill me. Would have been about 7 and half way up a tree at the time

Yes this is my dd's they make their own minds up 3.11yrs & 2yrs. Must say that some days I hate them playing in the garden in case the neighbours see what they have on and think I'm a bad mother as they look a mess but I think if they are happy, healthy and loved then who cares when dd1 wants to wear a bright blue t'shirt, green skirt and orange and red striped socks

wait til she has designated people that have to put on certain items of clothing for her.... god help me if i try and put dd's shoes on for her.... the screams of 'NOOOOOOOOOOOO! DADDY DOOT IT!' can be heard several miles away

my 2 year old girl wears her wellies. with everything regardless of the weather - they aren't even cute ones, just bog standard royal blue

Well, there are girlie girls, single-minded girls, comfort-loving girls....... My two girls are quite different when it comes to clothes. My eldest is much like me - comfort first fashion second. She loathes jeans, prefers track suits to dresses or skirts, and given half a chance (even though she is nearly 9) would wear nothing at all when the weather is warm! My second daughter would put up with a lot for what she deems the right look! She is 7yrs and last weekend appeared dressed for a picnic in tights a sparkly dress and off-the-shoulder fluffy jumper! When both parents said "go and change" she gave us such a flushed incredulous teenage "unbelievable!" reaction!

Oh and I can't remember when they started their dress-sense ("sense" in a very wide context!)- pretty darned early. I certainly remember DD2 kicking up a fuss about what she was going to wear VERY early on!

My ds is like this too!

3 boys here! Have to say though when ds2 was 2 I remember him being very vociferous about not wanting to wear "dat top!" And going into meltdown when I tried to reason that the top that he did want to wear was not actually a top, it was a jacket and he would still need a top to go with it. One of my work colleagues has suggested that he might be gay!

Oh that must be my ds' problem then!

He takes grave exception to a Captain Tortue top I bought him (expensive and rather tasteful), and doesn't like jeans!!

DD spent most of today wearing pink swimming goggles and not much else. She was painting which explains the nudity, but not the goggles, especially as she insisted on wearing them to pick DSs up from school (with sundess that time though)

my d is 2 tomorrow and definitely has an opinion about what she wants to wear. I'm not sure exactly what she likes as it seems to change but she knows what she doesn't want to wear. Same goes for shoes. I'm not like that at all so she must have got it from her dad!

My dd would not wear trousers only skirts or dresses for a long period between age 3-4. Have recently weaned her back on to trousers...

chocolatechipmonkey - I had a similar comment from someone last week. We'd gone to their house to play and I'd forgotton his wellies. So he went straight to the cupboard and proudly put on a pair of pink spotty ones (he's 4), then insisted that he be allowed to wear a matching pink coat belonging to their daughter instead of his own jacket (and I quote) "Because it doesnt go together...". The dad made some comment about him growing up to be gay!!! WTF - pathetic man!!!

Floating, my dsis was like that, she refused to wear dresses for years! My cousin used to say "he hit me!" whenever dsis was violent towards her!
(Or actually " 'e 'it me!" my cousin was from East London!)

Floating, DD loves Thomas and Percy too but I put it down to having an older brother who is really into all the Isle of Sodor engines.

oh yes - I've had to give away a lovely gap dress because she just refused point blank to wear it. Yesterday, I had to take her out dressed in a pretty summer dress (fine), but it was really strappy so had to have soemthing under it so they only thing I had was a too big t-shirt, baseball boots and a cap on backwards. I was in a rush for a hospital appt so had no time to reason/persuade/argue. When I got back to pick her up from the friend who was looking afte rher she had swapped the baseball boots for wellies.

First day back at school today, and my (utter tomboy) dd aged 4.5 took one look at her summer checked school dress this morning and said "I don't THINK so Mummy!", before throwing it on the floor.
