I feel like lately my DD has become increasingly hard to understand and deal with. She is ungrateful not only to me but when friends take her out also'. She is forgetful to an alarming point, forgetting half way up the stairs what I've asked her to do. She can never hand her lunch money into school and the envelopes pile up in her back pack until I take them to the office (which isn't actually allowed). She never brings home letters or kits so I miss out on important school events. She has become a terrible lier and has changed what food she enjoys and has gone so far to spit food slyly into the loo. Most worryingly she has zero empathy. She never understands how things she says could hurt someone, and went so far as to say it would be highly amusing if her uncle was to cry at a funeral the other day. At 9 she should be aware that that isn't appropriate. Even after an explanation she looks blankly at me. I don't know where to start helping her 😢😢 there's much more to it, but Id be typing all night

Hi, I'm sorry you and your DD are going through this. On the one hand , forgetfulness can be a result of feeling stressed and anxious. Is there anything going on in her life that could be upsetting her, such as bullying, or illness or break-up in the family? But it also strikes me that your DD might possibly have have some cognitive issues (such as ADD or an autism-spectrum condition) which are showing up more as she gets older and as more is expected of her. Maybe speak to the teacher about how she is during school hours - does she get on OK socially with the other children, is she able to follow the teacher's instructions in class? If she is struggling with the same problems in school then it might be a good idea to speak to the SENCO.
