Twin granddaughters (aged 5). Is this common twins behaviour?

My twin granddaughters are always arguing, competing and fighting with each other. They rarely do as asked making them totally uncooperative. This behaviour takes up so much time that as a grandparent I rarely experience any joy with them. It's getting to the point now where I spend most of my time shouting at them. Obviously this is not what I want to be doing and I'm exhausted with it all. I'm wondering if their behaviour is common twins behaviour?

Yes it certainly can be - this document on school choices by TAMBA talks about different types of twin relationships and some can be extremely competitive. My twins aren't usually but we do find spending specific special individual time with them (even ten mins) helps quite a bit. Is there any way you can do this? TAMBA also have some good resources for grandparents. <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.tamba.org.uk/document.doc%3Fid%3D141&ved=0ahUKEwidqNfGw63WAhUl0YMKHVwZAkMQFgglMAA&usg=AFQjCNHX9kGvYQ5yFyOmMOvo2Rcub-NTvw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.tamba.org.uk/document.doc%3Fid%3D141&ved=0ahUKEwidqNfGw63WAhUl0YMKHVwZAkMQFgglMAA&usg=AFQjCNHX9kGvYQ5yFyOmMOvo2Rcub-NTvw

Mine are 6 and whilst they certainly do bicker it's not all the time and they are generally pretty cooperative.

We find one on one time extremely important, they need a bit of time away from each other. Not necessarily anything particularly exciting but I'll take one to the shops while the other stays home and walks the dog with DH.

They're usually pleased to see each other again after that:)

Are they in the same class at school? Also if they've just started school they're likely to be exhausted which doesn't help...
