To start a bottle of formula for dreamfeed at 6mo?

DS is 6 months old and waking endlessly at night for feeds. He is EBF and will not take breastmilk from a bottle. I'm so so tired and was so looking forward to starting to wean him at 6 months in the hope (not always the case, I know) that he might sleep slightly better and be more fulfilled. Weaning over the past few days has not gone well - I just don't think he's ready. He has no interest in it at all and seems to still have his tongue thrust reflex. So now I'm thinking we need to wait a few weeks and then try again. In the meantime I wonder whether giving him a warmed bottle of formula around 10/11pm would help him go a bit longer?
After he refused the expressed bottle I didn't force it as he already has a dummy and I just thought 'oh well, one less thing to have to take off him at some point' BUT I'm now very tired and thinking it might be worth it in the long run.

I would give it a try if I were you. I EBF up until about 3 months and as soon as I started bottles he was much more settled and just more satisfied I think. No harm in trying he may well not take it though after all this time on the boob.

Thanks buck for the reply. HV has said I could try one formula feed but to do it in a sippy cup/beaker before bed as otherwise I'll have to wean the bottle off him in 6 months anyway and it'll just cause more upset. She also suggested a mix of weaning (we were doing BLW) as he might take something like porridge - just tried that though and he kept his lips pursed together and refused to take any of it.

Urghhhhh can't do many more nights like last night.

I was quite rigid with BLW with DD who's now 2, it took her absolutely ages to eat much - until about 12 months I think! DS (7 months) has taken to solids a lot better but I just give him whatever via whatever method seems most suitable! Sometimes he likes it spooned in or other times he just likes to Smush it all over his face! His favourite is any kind of messy pasta dish.

I don't think you need to follow any specific method with weaning just see what works for your baby.

I didn't find taking a bottle away at 1yr a problem - once he was eating, he just had milk at bedtime and he wasn't bothered when we stopped that either. (Now the dummy is another story and he loves it!).
