6yo ds not going a poo till it's on it's way

My DS is 6 1/2. For a few years now he will not go to the toilet until he is literally touching cloth! It's not just number 2 but also when he needs a wee. He will dance around holding on till he can take no more. I ask him so many times a day does he need the toilet to be told no. Yet minutes later we have an accident.

I never had this problem when he was potty trained nor for a couple years after.

He is about to start year 2 and I know this is not normal for his age. Or is it? Anyone else experience this?

Dds only 4 but has been reliably potty trained for well over a year +. She's resently got into the habit of waiting till it's too late and goes mad that she hasn't made it. Happend three times now. We had a talk thaybif her bottom is telling her she needs a poo she has to listen to it!

@RedBlackberries it was about your DD's age it started. Nothing so far has worked. The thing is he gets so caught up in what he is doing/saying/doing next/saying next that his bodily functions take a back seat. He is a very meticulous boy his handwriting and drawings are better than most adults, even his yr 1 teacher commented on it numerous times. He is difficult to handle at times too most of the time because he is so strong minded. I put it down to me and his dad not being together and he has noticed his friends at school live with both parents (he did mention it recently). i don't know, I'm trying to think of all the reasons but nothing says "ah that's why" Sad
