How to deal with a 33 month old who has suddenly become clingy?

I'm aware that I'm not the first mum to have a clingy 2.5-3 year old, but I wanted to ask for help from people who had had similar experiences.
My DD is 33 months and has been in nursery since she was 5 months old (full time from the age of 9 months). Since I went back to work, my DH has been her main carer overall, although we share things pretty evenly, but I travel more often for work. Although our DD has been through a couple of clingy phases, these have always related to DH and not me. In the last few weeks she has become very clingy with me, to the point of hysterical - hitting my husband if he tries to take her to bed or comfort her at night, etc. He's pretty good and just carries on regardless, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice (other than 'ride it out'!) on how to handle this? I'm coming into another busy period with work and I'll be around less again and I don't want to distress DD and DH any further.
