And please be kind.
5 year old dd (she turned 5 last week) has been attending the school run holiday club. DS (7) also attends. A week ago we received a letter stating that she had bitten another child hard enough to leave a mark, and that if this happened gain she would be banned.
We spoke to her about it, did some social stories with her, tried to get to what had triggered it so we could help her manage better next time. We also sanctioned her at home.
This afternoon the club contacted us to inform us she had "attacked" the same child (her friend!) and that she is now banned from the setting for the remainder of the holidays. Apart from the fact we are now totally screwed for childcare, we also have to meet the Head and SENCO/deputy in Sept to discuss her behaviour.
There have been real issues in reception (one incident at lunch time, but her teacher said it was nothing), but in nursery she went through a phase of biting. She can be very violent towards us at home n(and also DS) and we deal with that. I usually block her arms and calmly say that I won't allow her to hurt me, we do time out and try and help her to calm down. We have sanctions like losing toys/TV time etc. And we positively enforce good behaviour with a marble jar.
I don't know what to do with her. Her report from reception was excellent, meeting all expected targets, sociable, good relationships with adults. But she can get into such a rage when things don't go her way. I need serious advice, I am taking full responsibility for this and know that it must be something I have or haven't done. What can we do?
