My DS was still bed wetting at 6. Now a few years later it has sorted itself out naturally. I would speak to ERIC and think about whether it is necessary to have desmopressin at this age?

Ds1 wet the bed until he was 10, we had desmopressin tablets which worked on the maximum dose but we were not prepared to drug him every night to keep him dry.

Desmopressin is used because we produce a hormone to suppress urine production whilst asleep so our bladders don't need emptying. Desmopressin is the artificial hormone. We only used it for nights in hotels or residential school trips.

We tried an alarm and had a lot of success with that but it was startling for Ds and he would stop weeing but would be completely traumatised, heart racing etc and we still had to get up to him to guide him to the toilet.

He is now 14 and grew out of it in year 6.

We just had a spare duvet and pillow ready to go, a brolly sheet bed pad (from ERIC) and just chucked everything wet into the bath. Just part of being a parent.

We monitored his liquid intake and his output (urinated into a measuring jug) did everything recommended on the ERIC website.

I know of someone who tried Retained Reflex therapy on her son aged 7 and it worked. You can google the exercises. Think it's called Spinal Galant Reflex and the exercises are very simple and easy. Some parents claim that their children stopped wetting the bed within one week. Might be worth checking it out.
