I thought it might be good to start a thread with ideas of 'rainy day' activities that can be done at home or on a walk etc that are good for primary aged kids. I'm a single mum and am lucky enough to have most of the holiday with DC but it's always nice to have new ideas!
Atm DS is struggling to keep his writing neat (nearly 6yo) and although he reads well he won't pick up a book voluntarily for fun. Maths is average but I really have to admit to not putting much effort in on this, so any ideas on age appropriate games or activities would be great - he's going into Y2 in Sept.
So far we do a treasure hunt every few months - we did for lego cards and now Pokemon cards. I write about 7 clues with clear writing and as simple as I can and he goes about hunting them down until he finds the 'prize'.
I find with writing magazines work well to get going but anything more than 1 sentence and he looses interest. He wanted to write a book on plants the other day and then decided he would dictate what I had to write
. As soon as I refused/suggested he could do it, he lost interest. Any ideas?
