My 8 month old will not let me leave the room for even 5 mins

As soon as I go to leave the room either for the bathroom or to make a drink she starts to cry uncontrollably to the point that, as she has just started to crawl she will follow me and will not wait with my husband or my mum or any of my friends. If they try to pick her up and console her she has none of it until I'm back in the room and I pick her up and then she stops. The other day I had a dentist appointment so I left her with my mum while I was there but from the moment left her house to the moment I returned she screamed and cried the way whole time to the point that she became hyperventilated. What I can do to solve this problem - it's getting beyond a joke now?

It's separation anxiety which is a common phase. They do get over it, and the best thing you can do is to minimize the separation for the time being. Dentist appointments are unavoidable, but I'd take her with you when you go to a different room, as annoying as it is. Can you have a safe space in each room where you can put her? I used to use the highchair, a bouncer etc in each room so I could take my DS around the house with me.

It's because she doesn't know that you even exist once you are out of her sight, never mind realise that you will come back. Once she matures and realises she can hear you, you are in another room, she will stop doing it.

In the meantime you just need to ride it out and try to take her with you whenever you can.
