Reflux in newborn? Very fidgety baby. Is this normal?

My baby is 5 weeks old and she has been a but of a crier from birth. They said it was colic so we have tried infacol and gripe water.. to be honest I am not even sure if it colic and I have been using these things for weeks. However the health visitor suggested reflux. She does have the hiccups all the time and constantly arches her back when feeding or getting burped and sometimes is spitting her milk out of particularly unsettled. She isn't a sicky baby though. She is very active and constantly kicks and fidgets about and is always kicking her legs non stop but doesn't seem in pain when she does this. She is not always unsettled. There are days she will go hours and hours without crying so I am not sure what it is. I barely nurse her or hold her as she prefers to lie herself but when she cries and is unsettled... it is terrible and she screams the place down. Has anyone had any expierned with this?

Is she getting enough sleep? New babies can only stay awake for 45-60 mins then become unsettled and start screaming. Back arching can be reflux or over tiredness.

When my DS was this age he was like this when he had wind.

My DS was the same. He would constantly arch his back asif it hurt when we burped him, we've used infacol since a few weeks after as he wasn't the best with bringing wind up.
But he started spitting up a lot of his feeds and spit up a lot. are you breastfeeding?
If not Reflux milk has saved my life! The milk is very thick so sits in the stomach and sets quicker. Ever since I put my son on it he never throw up unless he does a wet burp and he very very rarely gets the hiccups. Try keeping her up right for at least 20 minutes after a feed to let the milk in her stomach settle.
My Gp suggested infant gaviscon but I was very reluctant as one of the biggest side affects was constipation. But I would definitely reccomend Reflux / Thicker Milk.

Hi Laura! Did you find a solution for this with your daughter? My son sounds similar and feel a bit at lost!
