is too much baby videos good or bd?

my dd 17months, never been to nursery, likes watching all the nursery videos. she can read, recognize and repeat the full aphabet, numbers up to 20, and count up to 8. but she is barely calling us. only mama when is hungry or needs help. no papa or anything and she is quite used to play on her own. Very little interaction with other children when she is out to meet others. a lot of time calling her name is ignored. Is it better to send her to nursery? Any advice is appreciated

I think it would be worthwhile trying to get her into a goods Nursery, yes.

You don't need nursery to stimulate her, you can play with her. And not put videos on.

You're all she actually needs rn. By all means nursery if needed and the odd bit of TV. But you're it at this age, plus the loving adults.

Does she point at things to draw your attention to them - i.e. 'look, doggy' pointing rather than 'i want milk' pointing?

Turn off the TV and spend more time interacting with her. I'd be a bit worried about some sort of social communication disorder, so if things don't turn around when you focus on communication I'd do the Mchat questionnaire and speak to your HV or GP. I think it's an unusual toddler who would focus on TV to the exclusion of social interaction with their caregiver.

thanks for all the reply, she talks her own language and so comfortable play on her own. she will communicate with us but in way that would come to me and cuddle me or smile at me or cheer me up. . but when i want to talk to her tell her this is papa or something she is not interested..unless it is abc or numbers .

It sounds like she can 'parrot' a load of things she has heard on the videos and in that respect she knows things which are well in advance of expectations for her age, but at the same time she is behind expectations for social communication. She doesn't need educational videos or nursery at that age. What she needs is lots of quality interaction with parents or a caregiver (nanny, childminder etc). A brilliant book that I use a lot is Babytalk by Dr Sally Ward

OP, Miloarmadillo has a point. Your daughter sounds lovely, but like she might need a bit of help working out how to communicate with people.
