7 month old waking for the day at 5.30am

My LO goes to bed without a problem at 6.30ish, wakes twice for milk in the night but then wakes at 5 - 5.30 and won't go back to sleep. We've tried offering milk but she's not interested and we can't leave her to fuss as it'll wake our 4 yr old.

Argh, what to do?!

Hate to break it to you but DS2 woke at 5.30 until he was 7.

My DS did that around that age too chocolate. We just let him get up and then bring his naps forward. IME sleep patterns change so much in the first year just have to roll with it. We had a spell of 4.30/5.30 starts and now he's 15 months he sleeps till 8am.

I'm in the same boat (except I have a night waking) and I think it's just how it is until they are a bit older. Our babies have only been here for 7/8 months, it's all new for them really isn't it.

DS1 was and is just the same and is still waking at 5:30 now at 3 years old. DS2 is shaping up to be the same (he is 1 year old). I've grown to like it!

You need to shift the whole routine later. Nap at 9.30 & 2, bed at 7.30

Thats 11 hours sleep. Shes doing amazing to have all that with only 2 wake ups. If you want her to sleep later you'll need to put her to bed later.

Later bedtime might help, however my now 4 yo is an earlier riser, always has been and at 7 months she was also a 5.30am riser, it's hopefully a stage, although that particular stage tool 3.5 years!
Still wakes up at 6.30am now she's 4 and wakes my 14 month old up

Later bedtime.

I get 10-10.5 hours out of my 2 year old, and 9-10 hours out of my 10 month old (plus naps). I think that's pretty good.

The clocks are going back this weekend. It's an ideal time to change her routine.

If you make everything (breakfast, lunch, naps, dinner) an hour later it will be as if there was no change at all IYSWIM.

If you move it all by 2 hours it'll be only as if it is an hour difference.

My DC wake up at 8. They go to sleep.at 9 though! (11 hours sleep, same as yoirs).

My 8 year old still regularly wakes at 5.30. Hopefully it's just a phase for you but lots of children are just early risers and there's not a lot you can do about it believe me I tried everything

When mine were little we folded with it by going to bed at 9. Now that they're older they can at least lie quietly in bed and read a book until a slightly more reasonable hour!

Dd used to wake at 345. Then 430/5 for a long time. Suddenly it's now 630/7. Not sure there's much you can do but wait. Sympathy though.

Yes my dc are early risers, always 5.30 sometimes earlier even now they are older. There was a long thread on this recently and a lot of children are the same. You kind of adjust in time.

Mine did this for a year and it nearly broke me (work FT, STBXH never got up) I realised she was having the sleep she needed so moved bedtime and it helped massively.

Oh bum did I get the clocks wrong?

Now it the time it's easier to make DC's bedtimes earlier not later isn't it?

It's the spring one you need to take advantage of to make an easy transition to an earlier bedtime isn't it?

Sorry if I got your hopes up for a second there OP!

But ... it's worth remembering that everyone is about to change their DC''s bedtime by an hour, effectively, when we come out of summer time.

So it may be easier to change routine than you think, seeing as we all get on and just do it in Autumn and again in Spring without thinking too hard about it.

Mine is usually up between 05:30 & 06:00. If I move bedtime it just means she gets less sleep

Well we've done a slightly later bedtime before and it made no difference.

Also, OohNoDooEy, I can't change naps very easily as I need to leave the house at 2.50 on weekdays to do the preschool run so I'd be eating into her big nap. She wouldn't transfer to pushchair.

I'm crossing my fingers aforestgrewandgrew that the clocks changing won't be a nightmare although I've got visions of a 4.30am start - noooo!

As the clocks are changing on Sunday, today and tomorrow I would put her to bed a n hour later. By Sunday morning she will probably want to catch up on her sleep.

But in all honesty two of hours were 5-5.30 wakers . And they're 6-6.30 wakers now so they're just early risers

Mine is 15 months and still gets up at 5.30am. I've tried everything and am not just resigned to it! It's a pain as my 2 year old doesn't get up until 7 usually. We just go to bed earlier now!

Well the clocks have changed and my LO woke at 3.50am! We gave her a slightly later bedtime of 7pm but, if anything, she's woken up earlier and there's no way she's going back to sleep!

I had a 4am feed and dd has gone back to sleep. Unfortunately I am wide awake. (Another legacy of 3 years of early wake ups)

My middle DS was (and is) an early riser - the only one out of all of us. It was really difficult to keep him later, as he likes his early nights even on holiday, and even if we do keep him up, he will be up as early as ever the next morning. He is six now and his wake up time has crept forward from 5:10am (the first couple of years of his life) to something more like 6:45am. I don't think there's any real cure! The others are the other way round - they would happily sleep until 8-9am as babies, but getting them down in the evening was a long and tedious operation, and we basically had no evenings for a couple of years with each of them. We were more rested but we could never get anything done in the evening. So it's swings and roundabouts!
