Day 3 potty training still loads of accidents

DS is 29 months old and this is second time of attempting potty training, the first being 3 months ago. Basically after three days we are still getting a lot of accidents - the problem being that he is great at weeing when put on the potty but won't go himself so if he needs one he just does it! Also he doesn't seem to go very long between wees, which means he isn't actually holding it in for any length of time - no longer than an hour or 1.5 hrs. Is this something that he will 'get' if I carry on with the training or do I need to go back to nappies? (My Mum looks after him one day a week and refuses to change a 2.5 year olds nappy.... Hence the training now).

29 months - so not even 2 and a half? DS is three in a month. We tried six weeks ago and it was a no go. Now, he's asking to go at nursery and before his bath. I suspect if we tried again now, he'd get it pretty quickly.

Anecdotally, less than 2.5 is pretty young for a boy to train successfully. I'd rather wait and get it over with quickly than spend weeks or months cleaning up puddles.

It's confused slightly by my eldest son training at 26 months and being dry day and night within 3 days. Since this is the only experience I have its not much use to me now! I would quite happily wait a bit longer but my Mum isn't happy to change him when she has him.

DS was potty trained 4 months before 4th birthday! Gave up on all attempts before. He didn't like the final attempt much either, but he was soon to start school and it had to be done. Worked perfectly (after lots of accidents). Dry nights achieved at same time too. Don't rush unless you have to.

Sounds to me like he's not ready. Sorted ours at 2yr11 months with hardly any accidents at all.
I don't know any little boys trained at 2 and a half, sure there are some but all the ones I knew were about 3

I stopped trying on day 4. He is happy to wee on the potty if we put him there but equally as happy to wee in his pants wherever he is if he needs one. Will delay for a few more weeks/months.
