I've lost it completely with DS. Something has to change, I need ideas!

DS is going through a really horrible phase at the moment and I am at a complete loss as to what to do with him.

He is 4 years old (5 in August) and has just finished Reception year at school. In the past few weeks his behaviour has been getting worse and worse. He has these moments where is rude, naughty and if I tell him off he will LITERALLY scream at me and hit me. Screaming, shouting, crying and telling me how much he hates me. Then he is fine again. Consequences don't seem to mean anything to him. We take a toy away (or his at stuff - which he loves) until he can earn it back. He will say sorry but then continues to be naughty.

I just want my nice, polite little boy back. We have had him on reward chart type things before and they worked really well - until he loses interest and we are back to square one.

I am so close to walking out and letting DH deal with him. I can't cope being the one at home all the time the brunt of DS shitty attitude, onlhy for him to be a sweet little angel the rest of the time.

Help!

Is it possible that he is tired and overstimulated?
How much screen time (including wat hing tv) does he ger?

I think if I was in your situation the first thing I'd do would be to take a really good look at what might be causing his behaviour to change. Keep a diary for a couple of weeks and see if you can see anything which triggers it. The truth is that no matter how challenging, he is doing this for a reason, and although that doesn't make it 'ok' it does mean that unless you address the reason he gets so worked up you are unlikely to be able to help him change his behaviour.
