Best way to train without confusion, e.g straight into pants or try with pull ups first? How long should we try before we decide it's not working and how long will it take generally? Thank you!

I'm In a similar position. DS2 is 2.2 and we are on day 3. Days 1&2 only one accident per day. Even got a poo in potty. He'll wee on demand but is not yet asking. Anyway day 3 has been tough. Accidents every 30 mins or so this morning despite him weeing on the potty every hour when I asked. I put it down to massive morning milk consumption as he was fine this afternoon - wee on demand every 90mins ish. I just do t know if it's worth continuing if he doesn't start to tell me he needs to go before it's too late. Most of the accidents we had today he started to tell me he was weeing after he'd already started. A couple of times he then managed to hold in the rest of the wee before finishing on the potty which I guess is a good sign. Really unsure what to do. dS1 was dry within 3 days at the same age but had a lot more speech than DS2.
