I can't bear to cut my 9mths hair but its getting in his eyes and looks messy all the time

Rookiebaby has always been blessed with a fine head of hair and now theres too much of it.

Somehow I have got it into my head that you are not meant to cut it until they are a year old, plus I want to see if it goes curly and this is probably my best chance to find out. Plus my friend took her baby to the hairdressers and it cost a fiver and didn't look any different from before., now call me tight but I'm not wanting it styled like David Beckhams or anything.

However it is now getting to the stage where its getting into his eyes and he keeps getting porridge all over it and there are those annoying sideburns, he just looks a bit messy.

Anyone with any experience of hair cuts for the under ones ?

My ds is also 9 months and has had his hair cut 3 times already. He had a lot of hair at birth and didn't really lose much, so if we hadn't cut it it'd be really long by now!

I'm afraid I can't help you re hairdressers as my husband does it. He has the electric clipper things barbers use (he does his own hair too), and I think the last haircut was a 'number 4'. Ds actually likes it, I think it's the vibration, and he looks really cute. People regularly comment on his hair, strangers in Sainsbury's have even asked to touch it, and one of my pupils asked what products I used on ds's hair (this was when he was 3 months old and had just had his first haircut!)

oh cut it fgs

i ahet babies with long curly hair.

i always cut mine
imagine hwo annoying that si fro him

rookiemum · 13/01/2007 22:34

Ah we haven't got clippers, maybe I should just go along to the barbers with him.

Your response has convinced me though it needs cut, from a personal mothers vanity view he did look cuter when it was shorter.

I did my ds first 3 hair cuts at home. I sat him in front of the mirror so he could see himself and it went ok. Fringe was a bit short though, it took a couple of weeks for him to lose the village idiot look.

percypig · 13/01/2007 22:42

Just thought I'd add my ds also seems to find ME getting my hair cut very interesting - he loves the noises, mirrors and all the people to look at!

PeachesMcLean · 13/01/2007 22:43

I always used to cut my son's hair, till he was about three. Sit him in front of the telly, or, if desperate, trim the fringe whilst he's asleep. Bit like squeezing spots though, satisfying, but you need to know when to stop. I know what you mean about stylists, when I did take him to a hairdresser, one young lad asked if my three year old wanted any product on his hair...

largeginandtonic · 13/01/2007 22:46

Oh bugger, will try again

here

largeginandtonic · 13/01/2007 22:50

As opposed to the twins who love having thier hair cut

Here

I cut it yesterday with the clippers, i refuse to pay £7 in local hairdressers for a cut that takes me 5 mins with the clippers!

I like babies with long, crazy hair but it's probably a bit mean if it's in his eyes. Ooooh dilema, ds has only ever had the ends trimmed, do that first!

100PerCentCod · 13/01/2007 22:54

ooh god htats short

largeginandtonic · 13/01/2007 23:00

Ha! I thought i was very generous, gave them a grade 4. I practically scalp them in the summer...

rookiemum · 14/01/2007 10:27

ggirl love the picture and yours too largeginandtonic.

I know I'm being a tremendous wuss about the whole thing, its just HAIR, its just he is growing up so fast and I feel he won't be a baby once its done.

However DH does have clippers in the attic so if he ever ups himself from his lie in then he might try and find them and we can have a go.
