fact or fiction - baby ears?

Is it true that when bathing baby you should avoid their ears going under water to prevent ear infections? If this is true, how do you best manage it?

nonsense. ear infections are infections of the middle ear (behind the eardrum). water doesn't get there when you put the head under water (unless the eardrums are damaged or the child has grommets)/
