3 week old snuffling and struggling to breathe when laid down

I've been to the doctors with her and he says all is ok but we're being driven slightly insane by her sleep / non sleep issues.

Whenever we lie her down she makes such uncomfortable breathing sounds, as if she is really struggling. It sounds like a mix of a cold, mucous and general breathing. It's fine when we hold her but as soon as she's down it starts, and it's LOUD, meaning we can't sleep.

We've tried raising the Moses basket mattress and putting her on her side but nothing makes a difference.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long did it go on for?

Children's hospital doctor or GP? In your place I might seek a second opinion, as that sounds quite nasty for such a small baby. Don't want to be alarmist, but my only experience of this sort of symptom in 7week old DS it turned out to be bronchiolitus.

I was going to say almost exactly what HJBeans said. My then 3 month old was nearly hospitalised with bronchiolitis.
