Ds is now 6 1/2 months and can't roll, sit, crawl or anything like that and I need reassurance...

... that this is still kind of normal.

I know he will have problems with gross motor development because his head is slightly large, his arms and legs are short in comparison to his trunk, so it will be more difficult for him to balance himself out IYSWIM.

But it would help to think that even babies without ds's specific problems don't all roll/crawl/sit unaided at this age! Or do they?

Hiya Emkana

Haven't read all msgs so sorry if repeating
but thought I'd lend more reassurance my DD was born on 17 june 06 and only this week os attempting to sit up and hasn't ever really rolled over 'cept what seems to be by accident or crawl!
HV only said she'd be concerned if she wasn't sitting by 9 months and that she seemed to be developing normally!?

Hope this helps

Probably won't add much more reassurance, but neither of mine were sitting reliably unsupported at 6.5 months nor crawling. DS2 rolled over a couple of times at about 5 months and then never bothered again. He didn't crawl till 10.5 months and is still not the most physically active of children, but is fine.

Sorry that there has been no further progress in terms of your DS's chest issues. I think it is a great idea for your DH to chase up.

Both my girls, both of whom are physically and mentally fit, didn't sit until 8 or 9 months, crawled at just before a year and walked at 16 months and 18 months. (Unlike DS1 who was walking at 11mths).

By the age of 2 however, they could outrun all their peers and walk the dog at a reasonable pace for 2-3 miles.

So there's a lot of variation, even within the same family. I'd give it another 2 or 3 months before you need to worry.

hi, my dd is 19 months now, no problems with her.

she couldn't roll, sit or crawl at 6 1/2 months.

she rolled at about 8 months, sat at 9 1/2 months and crawled 2 daYs before her 1st birthday. She started walking at 16 1/2 months and is now running!

hope this reassures you x

ds 1 never rolled (neither did dd for that matter) and sat at 8 and a half months. He crawled at 10 months and then walked the week of his 1st birthday.

largeginandtonic · 08/01/2007 20:49

Have no fear, i have 5 and they have all been different. The twins did nothing till they were 9months then rolled over, sat up, crawled and walked on their first birthday!!! You have no idea the it caused. To think i willed them to move for months...maddness

ILoveDolly · 08/01/2007 23:38

yes g&t its typical isn't it you spend months mentally egging them on to move and wish you hadn't when they are in all the cupboards and out of the door before you can blink
