When to move toddler from grobag to pillow / duvet

DS is 2.2 and sleeping in cot in the largest size of grobag you can get (I think?). Lately we have noticed that he likes to use the bumper as a pillow (he pulls it down) and also a crochet blanket for the same purpose. Is it time to give him a pillow / quilt of some sort in his cot? Don't want to move to a toddler bed until we absolutely have to! What do others do at this age?

My DS has had a lightweight toddler duvet and a pillow since he was around 15 months. He hated being restricted in a grow bag and it's actually been a great way to start the transition to a bed. He went from being quite a mover at night to sleeping still cuddling into his pillow. It's adorable x

DS is the same age as yours. He's still in a cot and he has a sleeping bag and a pillow (a baby size one from ikea). Once he goes into a bed then we will use a duvet instead of a sleeping bag.

We just changed ds to a duvet and pillow in the cot. He is 2.1yr.

Only did it as baby coming in a month and trying to gradually move him to a bed and this is the first step

We did pillow and duvet in cot too. She never lost the duvet at all until we switched to a bed (and then we got duvet clips from jojomamanbebe that do a good job of keeping it on the bed).

In case you'd like to keep going with a sleeping bag, Jojomamanbebe does toddler ones up to 4 years. My tall almost two year old is in one of those.

And the merino sleeping bags also come in age 2-4.

We're just facing the transition to the 18-36m sleeping bags and I'm wondering whether to try and move to a duvet now. DD is 16m and just recently has stopped flipping and moving round her cot all night so it might be possible. The cost of the bags makes me shudder even though I usually get a couple second hand and a couple new from Amazon at a discount. But I guess you still need a couple of duvets, duvet covers etc so perhaps it'll be just as expensive... Plus we're fine with her in the cot for a while yet (no new baby on the horizon) so perhaps I'm just making it harder than it needs to be!

My DD is younger (17 months) but got the hang of a duvet easily. She never gets stuck under it and if she kicks it off she can pull it back round her. She always looks quite snug! She had the toddler pillow from Ikea initially but wasn't much impressed so now has a normal single one (quite a flat one).

She never much liked being in a cot so we moved her into a floor bed quite early, and it made sense to do duvet rather than sleeping bag at that point - although I was worried about her getting cold she was fine.
