Dummies!

My 18M old DS loves his dummy. He uses occassionally during the day but won't contemplate sleep without it. He sleeps very well and slept through from an early age. I feel like I should start to wean him off the dummy but I'm afraid he'll start night waking. Will he just grow out of it or should I take it away? Any advice?

DS1 (just turned 3). Still has dummy at bedtmime. DS2 (20 mths) has dummy at bedtime and also during the day if upset/teething/ill etc. If he is happy I remove it and put it out of sight.

I don't understand why so many of us get so het up about children having them. I know that they can affect their speech if used a lot during the day but night time???!!!

Every child needs some kind of comforter and if the dummy works then so be it.

My DS (19mths)apparently sleeps without his dummy at the childminder's but is hysterical if he doesn't have it at home. I would quite like him to give up on it for day time naps.
