Hello!
Should I be worried? He makes a lot of noise and I think HE thinks he is talking, but it's all funny noises and babbling.
No words yet, and no Mama or Dada. He occasionally says those words but not in context.
He understands loads. He will go and fetch things if I ask him to and will come for dinner when I call him - so he isn't deaf!
Thoughts?

My DS is now 19 months and still nada.

Totally within normal range. Try baby sign language to help him express himself. He'll probably go through his language explosion in the next year and he'll be talking in full sentences.

Ok, FINALLY! In the last two weeks (literally) he has gone from zero to:
Tractor (tah-taah)
Hot (he drops the t, very funny)
No (in a strange Swedish accent. I'm not Swedish)
Dinner (nyeh-nyeh)
Car (Gaah)

He is approaching 20 months old.

That's great! We also had progress today after weeks of not much change.
He added "nee nee" for horse (neigh) to his animal noises.

And for the first time out of context (not because he looked at it on a book or picture) he said "agua" (water in my language) and pointed to the kitchen. I gave him water in his cup and he was so happy. So was I :)

DS turned 20 months last week.

That's great Ellie! Agua? Portuguese or Spanish?... I speak both but am so lazy I only speak to DS in English. My mother speaks Portuguese to him all the time though.

Ds2 has just turned 17 months and can say banana (nana or more likely nananananana) but that's it.

His understanding is great though and he points/follows a point and chats away constantly. I keep thinking it's all just about to click.

It would help if I could remember when ds1 started talking but the 6 year age gap means it's all a bit of a haze (bad mother who didn't keep any records Blush). I'm fairly sure it was around 2 though.

"Agua" as in Spanish.

This is all very exciting! Let's see what their next words will be...

Can't wait for the language explosion that is supposed to occur around 24 months.
