Effect of sudden trauma on child of 9?

I can't give too many details but am trying to discover how sudden trauma might affect a 9 year old.

If a child was previously boisterous but managing ok, they then experienced a one off traumatic event and suddenly their behaviour was so extreme that they were excluded permanently from school... What might the possible 'diagnosis' be?

What I mean is, a child with early trauma might have attachment difficulties etc, but what might 'possibilities' be with a child with sudden onset of difficulties? Some kind of post traumatic stress?

Does anyone out there have any expertise? Any suggested reading?

Trauma can change a child significantly.

Without knowing specific details, I think Kate Cairns' books would be a good place to start- she is very well known for her work around trauma recovery. Some of her books here.

With regard to school, if you would like to PM me any details I'd be happy to discuss ways forward in terms of behaviour and exclusions.
