I am toilet training my 22 month old boy. He is doing ok as of now but not great....

He will start going to day care in 2 months. I was wondering if i should continue my potty training effort or should i not bother because i have heard major changes like day care n all can affect the process negatively.

The day care said they encourage toddlers to go potty but dont exactly train them. What should i ask at day care???

If you think he's ready to be trained then I wouldn't stop because he would be going to day care. I think that's more likely to have a positive impact because they will have systems of reminding the children to use the toilet, and he will see other children doing so.

The daycare should follow your lead as to where he's at - so if he's in nappies, you provide nappies, if he is potty trained they will remind him to use the potty.

Having said all that, it really depends on what you mean by 'okay, not great', and how long you have been trying for. 22 months is pretty young so if he's not getting it straight away (by that I mean within a week or so) then I'd leave it for a while.

If he's ready, then he'll be fine. All of mine trained round about age 21months to 25months, and dd1 and ds hardly had an accident from day 1, and major changes didn't effect them. Dd2 was harder, but mostly because she wanted to do it all on her own terms-so she wanted to always be the one to choose when she went, rather than me suggesting.

Ok...i want to go ahead with it but having read that major changes can have a negative impact, i was feeling low. Its day 3 today

.....(contd)

Its days 3 of intensive (by intensive i mean no diapers all day, naked/light pajamas, books for potty training, taking him to the potty at regular intervals n so on). Before this, i used to casually sit him on the potty regularly but we had diapers on. So he is used to sitting on the potty n not scared n also knows why he is sitting.

With the 3rd day of intensive, its getting so much better. We are still scared of pooing in the pot but he has been telling me when he wants to pee..of course with me reminding him.

So with this update...n if it keeps going this way (i know its unpredictable n may regress anytime)....will 2 months be ok to tell the day care with some confidence that i dont want him in diapers again? Of course considering i feel confident enough....

Yes. If your ds is able to do this, and it sounds as if he's making good progress, 2 months is more than enough time before he goes into day care. He might still have the odd accident, especially whilst he is learning the routine there, but they will be used to that.
