21 month old wakes up in morning and moans, groans, cries

Our 21 month old DD seems to have started waking in the morning when she's still really tired and then spends the next hour and a half (before she goes to nursery) moaning, groaning and crying.

For example, she'll call out for us, so we go into her - but then she doesn't want to be lifted out of her cot or given a cuddle. She just moans and groans and points to various things, which when you give her she pushes away or throws out the cot. So then we leave the room again (to try to get dressed for work) and the groaning escalates to wailing, so we go back in again but she doesn't want a cuddle or to be picked up or milk or anything she points at...and so it continues.

Any suggestions?

Hungry? Thirsty? Wet nappy? Cold? Wants a particular toy/book?

Zippity thanks for your reply

Not thirsty - we give her milk and she literally throws it out of her cot; and don't think she can be cold - I was so warm in her room this morning that I had to take my top off to cool down.

Maybe I'll try offering her some food - I sort of assumed if she was hungry she'd drink the milk.

She might want a particular book or toy, but it's really frustrating as we offer her book after book and toy after toy but she rejects them and we offer to lift her out of the cot (so she could get it herself) and she pushes us away. It's so frustrating

try ignoring her for a bit? my 18mo sometimes moans and groans when she wakes up but I don't go in until she calls me.
