Help, my dd who is almost 4 has been masturbating with her teddy for about 6 months now at night and during the night if she wakes.

We thought it would be a short lived thing but it appears in her own words "it's nice I like it" and doesn't want to stop, well can't argue with that.

Unfortunately her vagina has become sore as she is still in nappies at night and the friction is making it tender, sorry if tmi.

It was seen as a bit of a joke with her ds and us but she,s not for stopping, I tell her every night not to do it but with little success, I am hoping she will grow out of it, anyone any advice please.

I don't see how you can tell her not to do it. It really is her own business isn't it? Get her out of nappies at night will help. She may not need a nappy until she wakes up anyway.

Chippingin she's three.
I do agree that getting out of nappies might solve the problem of soreness, but she isn't four.

I can remember doing this. Not sure what age, probably about 6. I used to hump my teddy and hot water bottle. I can remember liking the hard nobbly bit at the top. Or i would stuff balls of socks down my pillowcase and use that. I always did it in private though, I guess because I was a bit older I had already learnt that your bits were meant to be kept private. I can also remember playing "doctors and nurses" with my girl friends and we always used to take our pants off and mess with each other. We sort of knew it was wrong because if we heard our parents coming we'd stop and we never told them but I don't think it was sexual as such, just curious I think. I also loved shimmying up the fireman's pole and the washing line which gave a similar feeling. I never really outgrew it, just learnt as I got older there were better ways of doing it. Wink

My dd does something similar has been since she could crawl. For a long time I thought it was a rocking thing, she seemed to do it when she was watching tv or trying to get to sleep but she is now just 6 and for the past while I have realised it seems to be more of a rubbing then a rocking. We have spoken to her about it and she knows it is fine to do it in private but not at school etc. She is fine with that and does seem to only "need" to do it when she is tired or a bit upset and I guess that is because it relaxes her I try not to think of it as anything more then that my dd2 sucks her thumb so I see it as similar to that iykwim
