Moving from bed to cot: when did you do it and why?

Just that really... DS is 2.3 and playing up big time at bedtime and I'm wondering whether taking the sides off his cot would be helpful or not.

When did you make the change and what made you do it at that moment?

at 23.5 months 2 weeks before DC2 arrived

we had the toddler bed in her room(not a lot of space) for a couple of months and she had the occasional nap but then suddenly when older cousins were visiting made the switch, we left the cot up for a month or so as didn´t want her to feel pushed out by dc2 and had a moses type thing anyway

Dd went into a single bed at just before 2. She was supposed to go into her cot bed but we managed to break the bugger whilst converting it. I saw no point in buying a tiny wee bed so just got a normal sized single. She fell out a couple of times onto cushions on the floor. It was fine.

At 2 yrs 4 months when she started climbing out of the cot. Cue 3 minths of trouble, waking up endlessly, not going to sleep for hours, etc. she doesnt believe in playing by herself either before bed or in the morning, so that trick others have has been a disaster!

3 months on though she is sleeping 10 hours at night without disturbing us for the most part. But I have lost an hour each evening as the only way to get her off to sleep is for me to sit with her - she used to be happy to be left in cot for this bit.

We have the cot back for impending arrival though and had to do it at some point. And she is delightful in other ways, this is not her strong point!!!

It was just before he turned 2 if I remember correctly. We took the sides down and made a big deal about it being his new big boy bed. I was so paranoid that he'd go wondering around our flat in the middle of the night or I'd wake up in the morning to find him causing havoc in the living room! But I needn't have worried because it actually took him a while to figure out he could get up and out his bed by himself and would still call us to come get him. After a couple of weeks though he learnt to come into our room in the morning and prod us until we woke up!
