any 7/8 month olds still not reacting to their name?

Ds turns 8 months this week and I have been looking at the milestones for 7 month olds. I have read that babies should know their name and turn to face the person calling them.

Ds rarely reacts when I say his name, sometimes he turns to look at me when I call him but I think it is more a case of him turning to my voice rather than the specific word, I have tried it with random words and he looks just as often if I say "cabbage"

He is showing great communication skills in other areas, he babbles mama, baba, dada, nanan, he cuddles you if you say "cuddles!" he is aware of echoes and shouts ugh uh uh ugh whenever we are I the communal hallway as he knows it echoes, he waves but only to himself and not in the context of hello or goodbye he just does it randomly whilst playing.

I have also read that he should be able to have a "conversation" with me, this doesn't happen at all.

Any other 7/8 months old babies that don't recognise theirname?

Mine started to reognise their names at about 1.

Shit she is meant to know her name? And say Mama? Bugger I thought she was doing well smacking things with her hands or a spoon to make a noise! She does make noise but I can't say I had discerned anything like words from it yet, but I might just not be listening in the right way Wink

8 months old on 20th, and bright as a button (particularly bright during the night which is unfortunate, but we are working on it).

I think they are all different, don't worry about it (I am trying not to Grin )

I thought ds was doing fine but my hv did an 8 month check ( not in the UK here it's routine to have an 8 month check) and she asked me about tge reacting to his name thing, I said no he doesn't and she asked me if I thought maybe he had hearing problems, he defiantly reacts to sound, he will stop what he is doing to listen if I put music on but just not interested in his name.

I was thinking maybe it was because we call him allsorts of different versions of his name.

Hmm thats a point I am not sure how often I actually address her by her actual name. Noted!

I suspect it is fine and not to worry though, genuinely they are all different - my friend had a little one who didn't move (as in crawl/walk/shuffle or whatever) till 13 months - and I think she was getting a bit concerned by that point!

My SIL has a little one coming up for 2 now who seems to have a lot less speech/words than other toddlers of the same age.

I am sure I read somewhere that generally by 5 or 6 years old it all comes out in the wash. I am clinging to this thought during night wakings at the moment!

My DS is 8mo and I noticed to my shame the other day that he doesn't respond to his name at all, but does respond to the word Piggles, which is what I have called him a a nickname from birth Hmm

DD is nearly 11 months and has only very recently begun to noticeably react to her name. At her 1yr ish developmental check a few weeks ago, she definitely did not stop what she was doing (trying to have a taste of the HV shoe) and look up when she said her name but she probably would now depending on the shoe.
