2yo finger sucking to the point of getting sores...

dd2 is a hardened finger-sucker. recently we noticed she's been sucking her fingers so hard that little dents appeared in them where she rested them on her teeth. the dents initially faded a few minutes after she stopped sucking.

However, this week, the dents are there all the time, and appear sore and slightly blistered. dd2 shows no sign of being bothered by this but I am worried they will get worse. I've put a plaster over the sores, leaving her access to fingers above the top knuckles for sucking IYSWIM, but she is inconsolable, and in all probability won't sleep without sucking. Has anyone else cracked this one.

not sure i can help but seeing as noone else has answered...my ds sucks his thumb. He has a permanent blister on it I think from his teeth. When it first appeared I think it was a little bit sore for a day or two, but now it's kind of hardened and it doesn't bother him at all. I figured it was best just to leave him to get on with it, as it didn't appear to hurt him .

if I could guarantee that the same would happen with dd2 we'd be perfectly happy, but am fretting nonetheless...

Would you at all be able to stick a plaster on at night once she's done sucking and fast asleep with a little medicated ointment on it? She'll wake up a bit surprised, but it might help it heal over night?

her finger is now a lot better after 48hrs rest, but we are all going insane as she's still distraught. we have just negotiated plaster by day, and lanisoh by night, which hopefully will mean they don't get worse.
