Are reflux babies at greater risk of SIDS? Has anyone else heard this?

Sorry, probably just a paranoid mother moment...

My DS has silent reflux; has done since three weeks and is being treated with Ranitidine (feeding is gradually improving, but, whilst once a great sleeper he is now waking every hour). I've heard through another mummy friend that reflux increases the risk of SIDS. I haven't come across this before, but it has me worried. Has anyone else heard this?

Any comments/advice welcome.

Thank you :)

I don't know about statistical link between reflux and SIDS and don't want to freak you out but DS2 did cough up blood and stop breathing in the night due to silent reflux - He'd just had a feed, I put him down again next to me (we co-slept) and he was quite hiccupy and coughy then I turned on the light and he'd stopped breathing and went all floppy. Thankfully he started breathing again before the ambulance got there. Doctors said the reflux had damaged the lining of his oesophagus and he'd breathed in the blood which cause the apnoea. Very very scary. But once the reflux was diagnosed and he started on ranitidine and gaviscon he was fine. I'm expecting DC3 and will definitely be co-sleeping again.
How old is your DS?

Oh my God, how utterly terrifying for you! Thank goodness your little one was ok. DS is 15 weeks now and has been on Ranitidine since 4/5 weeks. His reflux, although affecting his sleep now when once it did not, seems to finalling be under control touches wood.

How old was your little one when the coughing up incident occurred? Had he already been diagnosed/was on meds?

He was about seven weeks I think but only a couple of weeks past his due date as born early. He hadn't been diagnosed. I had noticed he had hiccups a lot. But hv thought nothing of it, and he was in a sling most of the time which probably helped. He was only in hospital one night, they found he was very anaemic so he had a blood transfusion. But once he was on the meds he was fine. We went on holiday a few weeks later and I forgot to pack the ranitidine, but he seemed fine . I thought it might be because I was eating differently (no milk because it was all horrible uht) so when we got back I went dairy free which I think helped. We introduced dairy gradually when he weaned. He's 5 now and perfectly healthy.
