What age to let DS swim on his own at a public pool?

He is a good swimmer and he and his friend would like to go to the local pool for an hour.

Is there a legal age or is it at the discretion of the pool/parent?

He will be 12 in October.

our local pool lets them swim unsupervised from the age of 8. My dd (8) has been to the pool with her cousins who are age 8 and 12 without any adults present.

Our local pool don't let any child unsupervised into the pool until the are 8. Again it depends on whether or not you think your child is responsible enough at the age of 12 to do this.

I'd be happy to let him swim with a friend.

Local pool here is also from age 8.

Thanks for replies. Blimey 8 yrs old seems very young to me however good a swimmer they are - it's the being on their own and being responsible!

So, I guess he is plenty old enough then - time to let him spread his wings a bit!!!
