My baby is expert at not swallowing medicine

My beautiful sweet 5mo ds has a grim and nasty skin infection. I'm starting to worry that soon he'll turn into one great big blister because I cannot get him to swallow his antibiotics.

I use one of those little pipettes and it seems that wherever I squirt the medicine, a few seconds later, out it all comes again. He's actually started to develop more sophisticated spit out techniques.

does anyone have any tips?

my dd has cf and has been taking medicine since she was 6 weeks old.we have always used syringes to give her her meds.the way to do it is,just put the syringe in the corner of his mouth,and push a little in at a time,make him laugh,that way he'll think its fun to have it.thats how we have always done it with dd.good luck!oh,and if he does spit it out make sure when you wipe it off that you go under his chin and tops of his clothes.we once missed abit of medicine that dd had spat out and it caused a rash.

My DS and DD won't take medicine either. We've tried everything inc syringes and the staff in the hospital when DD was in recently couldn't do it either My GP prescribed an anti-biotic that only needs to be taken 3 times, once a day. SO I just about managed to get enough into her. He said they only prescribe it in exceptional circs as most people manage with the usual ones... he could see how things were! I can't remember what its called, maybe any MN GPs or Drs would know?

I am sorry but I am sooo against pipettes. My step daughter, now 7, absolutely refuses to take any type of medicine. This is all due to her having medicine squirted down her throat with a pipette when she was a baby.
It now all has to be dressed up in 'magic milk'- ie choc milk with loads of sugar as she can taste orange, strawberry or banana flavours at homeopathic levels. She is 7 fgs...
My 18 month old ds happily swigs from a spoon and has done so since birth. I know how hard it can be to get little ones to take medicine, but please be wary of creating problems later in life. Why not try a spoon ?! It may still not go in but at least they won't grow up with a fear of pipettes !

Sorry I know this isn't helpful to maretta, you must be having an awful time of it. I hope your ds is better soon and you are able to get him to take his medicine...

My DS 9mths is also terrible at taking medicine, so we fool him by popping it in a botlle with a tiny amount of water and call it 'special juice'. Works everytime

We tried spoons, yoghurt, juice etc etc....
