As the title says, I'm at my wits end with DD.

Yes definitely if anything my 3 yo ds is worse, I'm at my wits end and have decided not to give in to him anymore. He has gone from being not too bad to terrible in the space of a few wks! I just had to carry him kicking & screaming into the school that my dd goes to, it is becoming a regular thing but is v Blush when every mum is staring at my screaming toddler refusing to move!

WincNanny · 01/05/2012 09:12

I often say I'd swap DC 4.6 to being 2 again!

lindsell · 01/05/2012 09:36

Ds still has tantrums (3.1) but they're not the same - they are now purely for effect and don't last long. They only tend to happen now if he's particularly tired/hungry whereas as recently as a month ago there could be a major tantrum because I stood on the 'wrong' side of him
or something equally life changing!

His tantrums used to be worst in the morning when we had to rush to get out of the house for me to go to work & get him to nursery. They'be improved a lot since I've been on ml and have more time in the m

Sorry stupid phone posted too soon!

More time in the morning to go at his (snail like) pace of eating/dressing etc. I expect that they may get worse again when dc2 due any day arrives!

I think I've also developed consistent methods of dealing with a tantrum, I ignore the behaviour and repeat calmly in a slow and low voice that until he calms down and stops crying/shouting then he can't have/do whatever it is he wants. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to use an immediate consequence - e.g if you do not stop that noise now you cannot have x or do y. I think he has learnt that I mean what I say and usually it works pretty quickly.

driedapricots · 03/05/2012 20:09

er, yes. mine's 4.5 and it's getting louder!

AnAirOfHope · 03/05/2012 20:12

yes Sad

thaliablogs · 03/05/2012 21:58

Mine's 2y9m does that count?

And yes.

BiscuitNibbler · 03/05/2012 22:20

Yes, and it is bloody annoying. However she does respond to ultimatums now (stop this or you can't go to xyz / I'll take away x toy / you'll go straight to bed) so it is more manageable.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 03/05/2012 22:27

er, yes. Sorry.

Although I think they are a different kind. 2yo was pure irrational rage and I lot of NOT wanting to do things. 3yo is actually a bit more reasonable, can be jollied/bribed/ultimatumed out of it and they tend to be about wanting to do something. We are not very consistent with her at the moment though, so probably not doing everything we possibly can.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 03/05/2012 23:06

Um, yes, and at 4 too. I'd happily stick with 2 yo tantrums in the face of 4 yo ones! But at least at an older age you can reason more with them, and distractions might make more of a difference too.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 04/05/2012 06:06

Thanks for your replies, sorry you are all still having to put up with the tantrums, I just wanted to check this was "normal" for this age group.

Lets hope it will get easier soon. Hmm

Oh heavens yes but they seem to be louder and the crying more 'structured' ?....drives me insane.
