Weaning: what time of day and how much food?

Hi all,
I'm into week 3 of weaning and feel like I've been winging it a bit so far just trying to get DS used to tastes and texture of puréed food.

He's had baby rice, carrot, parsnip, sweet potato and pear. I've been giving with veg at about 11.30 and the fruit at around 3pm but I just came up with those times by myself do just wondering what times I should aim for.

Also currently giving 1-2 cubes of veg and 1 cube of fruit so not sure when I should increase this?

Thanks!!

Hello Smile
we are also on about week 3 and these are our loose timings
Between 5.30 and 6 some milk (and then back to bed a bit for everyone)
8.30/9 Breakfast
Between 12 and 1 (depending on sleeps) Lunch
5.30 Teatime
20 minutes of sitting up to digest a bit then bath at 6
She still has milk every 3-4 hours during the day but sleeps through. I try to give her a slightly carb heavy tea eg cheesy parsnips with courgettes so it keeps her fuller all night Wink
I'm trying her with a baked potato tonight as she's already had mash and loves it!
Any good?

I've lost track of what week I'm on because DS had a cold part way through his first month and lost interest in his solids. I think at week 3 we had pretty loose timings. I didn't really start firming them up until he was ready for 3 meals a day. The feeling of winging it hasn't really gone away for me. It sounds like you're doing fine though. I would try increasing the amount a little and see if he is ready for more. The worst he can do is throw up on you.....

Well I've started giving a cube of fruit in the morning around 9am and his lunch time veg is now around 1pm and I'm giving it with a milk feed.

I'm not giving any water yet, i keep reading conflicting advice.....
I'll offer a 3rd meal at about 5pm today and then next week I'll increase the portion sizes gradually?

Thanks for the advice! Smile

I didn't really puree so can't help much on portions. We just gave solids at normal meal times with everyone else though, didn't occur to me to do otherwise! I kept feeding on demand the rest of the time. It made far more sense to me to establish meal times at the same time as the rest of us rather than end up having to do half a million different meals at different times of the day!

I put a sippy cup of water on the tray at meal times so he could have some if he wanted to. Sometimes he seemed to like to rinse his mouth out a bit, especially with stuff like potato (actually at 5 he still isn't a potato fan!).
