Ds is just 4. Everything and I mean absolutely everything is a race to him and he HAS to be first. Going out of a door, going upstairs, getting into the car, brushing his teeth etc etc etc. He crows and brags if he is 'first' in any of the self-designated races he sets and has meltdowns if he's beaten! Hmm. His sister is getting fed up with it and so am I. I need coping strategies!!

I am so glad I am not the only one!!
My ds (also 4) is exactly the same. At first I didn't really take much notice, but now I am trying to explain to him that its not all about the winning/ being first...its not working! If he doesn't win he cry's/stamps his feet/ storms off etc.

My 4 year old ds was just like that, drove me mad. If his little brother even got upstairs before him, stroppy is not the word! He's 5 now, and lovely againGrin.

So it does wear off?!? It is relentless with him at the moment!

my 3 yr old does this if his little brother finishes his food first he gets all like 'but i wanted to win, now im sad!!' im sure i read it somewhere that its a developmental phase for this age so i just ignore and hopefully they grow out of it soon!

Yes, it does wear off Smile. Unfortunately, now my 5 year old ds has grown out of it, my 3 year old ds is starting Grin shheeeesh..... (please tell me it doesn't happen to girls too?!)
