Hi,

Do you believe in the fact that a toddler will be 1/2 their adult height at 2yrs.

I'm trusting it's not true because DS1 was tiny at 2 - he's still pretty small at 7. I'm 5'2" and husband 5'10", so I don't expect the boys to be huge but average male height would be good.

Redtartanlass · 16/01/2006 12:49

My DS1 was always smaller than his friends when he was growing up, he's 6 foot now!!!

Can remember trying to work out his height when he was 2 and worrying 'cos it worked out he'd be dead wee.

PiccadillyCircus · 16/01/2006 12:51

When I was 2, I was 3 foot. I am not 6 foot now

PiccadillyCircus · 16/01/2006 12:52

And I'm not 5 foot 7 either (just done the BBC height calculator thing).

Must meausre DS and see what he might be.

DH tells me he was a shrimp until really late (around 15) and then grew to be above average height. I have seen photos of him at 14 and he still looks like a tiny boy - so I fear that is DS1's fate, in particular. Men on my side of the family are all about 5'8" so I'm hoping he won't be the 5'3" or whatever that his 2 year old height would have given.

coppertop · 16/01/2006 13:22

I was tall through most of primary school but am now still only 5ft 3. Dh was small until his teens and is now well over 6ft tall. He is also much taller than both his parents.

Have never heard of this theory, so am very interested! ds is only 1 at the moment, but he is over his height chart in his red book! Will remember this when he is 2!

If so, DS3 will be 4 ft.

i thought it was three years from what I was read?

All my three are small tho, odd really- We're not huge but not tiny: Dh is I believe average at 5 10, I am slightly above female average at 5 6.

HansieMom · 17/01/2006 04:12

Thirty some years ago, I knew of the 'Measure Boys At Two And Double It For Adult Height'.

DS1 was 36" so it meant he would be 6'. He is 6' 1.5" so that wasn't too far off.

DS2 was guess-timated to be 5'10". He is 6'3". Thus I think the formula is wildly inaccurate.

DS1 was my height at age 13, DS2 at 14.

I enjoy reading MN, but I'm a generation older than most of you.

My daughter measured 80cm at 2yrs so is projected by the calculator to be 157cm (5ft2). She hasn't grown much since she was two and has had various tests and visits with the endocrinologist, who projected her adult height at 5ft. I am 5ft 6 and my husband 5ft 10 so it is somewhat smaller than us. However, his dad was only 5ft when he left school at 16 but carried on growing to 5ft 8, so there is hope she might spurt later!
