14mo not 'trying to walk' at all in standing position - he just stays completely still

My 14mo ds makes no attempts to walk at all when he is in a standing position, has anyone experienced this? Eg he will pull himself up on the sofa but not cruise. If you hold him in a standing position he won't put one foot in front of the other. In a baby walker he moves forward by launching himself off both feet simultaneously.

He otherwise seems to be developing normally, if slower than his peers (sitting late, only crawling at 12 months, no discernible words yet) and with a few 'quirky' behaviours, such as a lot of hand and object flapping/waggling and a great love of all things that spin. He's a very smiley boy.

Any thoughts? Probably one day he'll just launch right in, but I do like a good worry Xmas Smile

Dd2 didn't walk till 22 months and dd1 didn't walk till after 2 years! We were told they were fine but wishes I had pushed harder. Both have autism and dd1 has tight leg tendons and dd2 is hypomobile.
You know him best, if your worried go and talk to GP but be prepared to be told to sit and wait.

Thanks Lisa, that's interesting. I'm very ignorant - I didn't realise that autism included any physical issues. Is that common?

My HV did raise an eyebrow at his one year check but just said we should keep an eye on him - she was more concerned about the lack of any words though.

I just think it's peculiar that he doesn't even attempt it.

I've done the foresight test for him and it came back high risk :( I'm not sure how it's viewed here?

It reminded me of a couple of issues I didn't list above, namely his persistent biting and his poor sleep.

On the plus side he is very interactive, loves people and is a terrible flirt. He is also very cuddly Xmas Smile

Ds3 stood and pulled up lots at ten months but then nothing - didn't walk till 14 months. Ds2 didn't bother his arse till 17 months to do anything

Autism, rarely exists just on its own and often children with autism will have different disorders aswell.
I don't know how common the physical delay is in many children with autism, but have heard of a few.
The Hv is right to keep an eye on speech problems.
Not sure what that foresight test is, so off to google.

Can't find test you were talking about. Feel free to pm me if I can help.

Neither of my daughters walked until 17/18 months. Dd1 never crawled, dd2 did start crawling at about 12/13 months.

Neither of mine have any additional needs or problems despite being just in the range of normal for walking.

It's a website that offers the PED test. I'm probably worrying over nothing...I am one of life's worriers!
