When did your LO start to crawl?

My DS is 8.5 months old and showing no signs of crawling. He is sitting very happily. Whenever I put him on his tummy he just gets upset after about 30 seconds ... am starting to worry as all the other babies we know of a similar age are crawling!! I know you should never compare ... but can't help it!!! Thanks

Reallife - thanks. I don't mind whether he crawl or bum shuffle or walk - as long as he moves about independently! I am desperate! :p

Although I think he won't be walking too soon as he couldn't stand up from a sitting position or sit down in a controlled manner from standing.

DD is 18 months and still can't crawl! She can walk though. She was a speedy bum shuffler and never learned crawling, also hated tummy time.

Both of mine were 11.5 months. One walked at 15 months, other at 17 months. Nothing to worry about, in fact I was positively grateful second time round as it's such a nightmare when they first crawl and suddenly reach all these dangerous places that you haven't childproofed!

You're right, you shouldn't compare! Grin

DS never bothered crawling, he was sat up at 6m and walking at 9m tho.. He's 20m now and I honestly don't recall him ever having rolled over Confused

My DD never wanted to crawl. She just bum shuffled along then started walking at 18months.

Ophuchi · 22/12/2011 12:19

Don't worry. DD (21 months and first child) was exactly the same. She crawled at 14 months and walked at 16 months.

My neighbour's DD was born the same week as mine. Neighbour's child crawled at 6 months, walked at 9 months. Neighbour used to take great pleasure in telling me how advanced her little one was.

Karma bit neighbour on the bum as her DD doesn't talk yet and mine's asking where the moon goes etc.

Don't worry, don't compare and if you do have any friends like my neighbour just nod, smile and agree with them :)

I do agree with Ophuchi that children seems to "pick" one area to be more advance at. Those who walk early may speak later or have worse fine motor skill etc.

DD didn't crawl. She bum shuffled at about 9 or 10 months, and walked at 12 months.

Ds sat at 3 months, crawled at 5 months but didn't walk until 13 months.

Dd sat at 6 months, crawled at 7 months and walked at 10 months.

My friend's son didn't move til 16 months and I was jealous

They're all different but will get there.
