How the hell do you get a toddler to blow their nose and not sniff it all back up?

I don't get it, DS is 2yrs 10 months and DOES NOT understand blowing his nose rather than sniffing all the snot back up.

Is there a trick to this?

I used to do bogey fishing (still threaten it from time to time!!) What this involves is me rolling a bit of tissue and sticking it up DS' nostrol. It tickles and he sneezed. Out with the snot! I also had a French thing designed to suck the snot out of babies' noses. Truey revolting, but actually quite useful.

Eventually he picked it up and then there is bribery.

Good luck!

Bogey fishing sounds like a great idea! I am fed up of the snot across the face look!

I haven't tried it yet as ds is too young still but I read on here, tell them to blow out birthday candles but with their mouth closed.

My dd is the opposite and loves to snort it out. Didn't teach her though and it's thoroughly gross, but I suppose healthier than sucking it back up!

My auntie taught me to laugh with my mouth closed.
