Hello

Does anyone's 2 year old now how to count to 10, know the name of shapes, the Alphabet or the name of colours?

I have a 2.1 year old boy who has just learened to say a few words and a family support work has said i need to teach my child all the above now!

I didn't think a child could learn these till they were older Confused

I guess i'm just worried that i have let my child run ferral instead of teaching him the above. He is my first so i have nothing to compear him with.

So is everyone else teaching their 2 year olds the above and if so how do you do it?

Mine doesn’t say a single word - a few months under 2. Confused
I swear he doesn’t understand much either, so your child sounds advanced to me! If he’s got great motor skills then maybe his focus has been in that than understanding letter and colours. I really wouldn’t worry. (Says the parent who worries loads)

My second could but my eldest was totally non verbal and didn’t know the alphabet or how to count properly for way longer than that (NOT THROUGH LACK OF TRYING!)
God, I remember how frustrated I felt. I remember how inadequate I felt and how I thought there must be something wrong... he’s starting school and doesn’t know basics and I tried so hard. He also had a stutter and speech problems.

Anyway, fast forward, he’s now a perfectly articulate, intelligent (and really funny) 12 year old. Ahead in school to a point we had to take him out and have him privately tutored.

Honestly, 2 year old? Don’t worry!

My almost 2 year old (2 weeks from now) recognizes and names all of his shapes and colors. He also counts from 1-10 and backwards from 10-0. The YouTube videos (like Cocomelon and Blippi) have helped and then I also bought books with shapes, the alphabet and number to go over them with him. Started that around 18 months.

I couldn’t say the alphabet until I was 6, but was reading almost fluently at that age

I knew letters, just didn’t know the order of the alphabet. Still makes me wonder what the point of the order is. Anyone know?
