I've been offering DD2 water from a beaker since she was around 5 months and she just won't take it. I realise she gets liquid from food etc (She has porridge for breakfast and lots of fruit and veg), but it's starting to concern me that she's not drinking.

She has a milk feed in the afternoon, and one before bed (both from a bottle as she won't take it from a beaker).

Should I persevere as we are or go back to giving her more milk feeds do you think? I'm really reluctant to go down the squash/diluted juice route.

Any suggestions/reassurance would be gratefully received. She is DC2 but I don't remember having this issue first time around!

I would just keep trying. I don't think my son drank water until he was at least a year. Now he drinks it all day long, but out of a sippy cup so he can carry it around with him.

So you could also try a sippy cup rather than an open beaker.

Neither of my dd's would drink water when they were younger (now 7 and 5). I eventually went down the squash and juice route but only with meals, still only offer water between meals and after 6pm. They will now drink water occasionally, but only if they are really hot and the water is cold. dd2 drinks her bath water though!!

My guys weren't big water drinkers at this age. I probably went down the dilute juice from a year.

Just keep offering and don't be sucked into trying every kind of cup on the market! (FWIW I think the cheap tommee tippee ones are best).

Some kids just don't drink a lot. My 3 (now 7, 4 and 2) still don't drink a lot.

Similar to Elk - none of my DS's would drink water at all. They would go thirsty rather than drink it (Tbh don't blame then - we have horrible tasting hard water here Grin).

I went down the squash route. It's now DS1's drink of choice (he's 10), DS2 will drink it sometimes (7yrs old) and DS3 still won't touch the stuff. The older 2 started drinking it when they went to school.

Still buy squash in regularly though
