Valentine?

This is a big name in my family (often shortened to Val), and I like it because it's quite unusual as well as the family connection. DH not so keen though he's ok for it to be a middle name, he's just worried about school teasing etc... (though from a teenage girl's perspective quite fanciable no?!) Keen to get some objective reactions on this one!

I like it. I met an older gentleman with this name recently, it was shortened to val though. I think it would be difficult to carry off.

DandyDan · 13/07/2010 15:31

I think it's great for a boy.
Valentine Warner, Val Kilmer

It can also be used for a girl - Valentine Wannop in Parade's End, who is utterly fabulous.

swanandduck · 13/07/2010 15:39

Sorry, think he'll get teased. Especially if he's not a heart throbby type teenager. You know how bitchy girls can be at that age and how blunt boys can be.

MamaLazarou · 13/07/2010 17:07

I love the name Valentine. There aren't enough Valentines in the world.

amandine07 · 14/07/2010 10:20

I much prefer the French version Valentin, I know it's technically the same name but it's the 'e' on the end that makes it seem so feminine for me & not really suited for a little boy!
I love the girl version Valentina, Salma Hayek's daughter has that name.

wigglesrock · 15/07/2010 20:25

Why not go for Valentino and shorten it to Tino?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 15/07/2010 20:28

Love it, love it, love it.

Is Valentine Warner that chef? That was the Valentine I was thinking of when I saw this thread. He has got a DIRTY glint in his eye

hellokitty123 · 15/07/2010 22:17

Lovely for a boy. Yes, Valentine Warner is gorgeous! Valentino also nice.

VintageLuxury · 05/02/2011 17:39

DD1's middle name is Valentine, I couldn't resist as she was born on 14 February!

onimolap · 05/02/2011 18:30

Valentine would be good as a middle name (especially for a February baby), but It could be difficult to live with as a first name.

evamummy · 05/02/2011 21:15

I love it. And it really suits Valentine Warner. Great name imo.

weimy · 05/02/2011 21:45

I like it!

I like Valente too.

Nightstar · 05/02/2011 22:18

Ooh I wish I had the minerals to for a name like that!

It is sexy, and it would be great on a girl too

But I dont, never in a million........

Nightstar · 05/02/2011 22:19

I did have a teddy bear called Valentine though. Given to me by a boyfriend of course

stripeybumpsmum · 05/02/2011 22:29

When I was pg with DS, DH really liked Valentine/Valentino but I vetoed it on the grounds our surname is not Rossi Hmm. Now preg with DC3, DH is a teacher and senses the teasing potential. I still quite like it!

AllieW · 05/02/2011 22:58

There was a Valentino at my primary school. The poor lad got thoroughly tormented by the other kids about it because it sounded so girly to them. I'd like to think that kids now would be less cruel, but unfortunately I don't think it likely. However, if you're in a particularly multi-cultural area it may not be a problem (my primary school was in a very white bit of West Kent, so not very tolerant).

weimy · 06/02/2011 10:52

I think it prob depends on your surname too, mine is very obviously italian so it would be ok

evamummy · 06/02/2011 13:29

Valentina for a girl.

Valentine/Valentino for a boy.

Love both!

Hatterbox · 06/02/2011 13:35

DS's name is Valentine, pronounced val-en-teen, not as val-en-tyne.

We call him Tino.

ensure · 07/02/2011 16:23

I really like it personally!

QuestionNumber · 08/02/2011 00:43

I like it.

Changeisagoodthing · 08/02/2011 01:17

Don't think Val Kilmer is a valentine just a val

Pasiphae · 08/02/2011 12:32

Valentin for a boy and Valentine/Valentina for a girl. Beautiful!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/02/2011 13:47

Love Valentine for a boy and Valentina for a girl.
