Is it short for anything besides Fintan? And what are people's general thoughts on it?

I find Finn very dull, probably because there are loads round here...

I love the name, would spell it Fionn (but I am Irish!), you should read the story of Fionn Mac Chuaill online, a famous Irish myth about a giant!
I am having a DD this time, but had it been another DS it would have been Fionn for sure

PaulineCampbellJones · 02/07/2010 20:28

Finn or Fionn is a Scandinavian / Irish name as well that's not a nn.

ja9 · 02/07/2010 20:32

i love finn - was our name for dd! know quite few finlays but no finns...

CheerfulYank · 03/07/2010 01:04

It's not too trendy in our area; I do know one little girl who's Finley and is occasionally called Fin.

We read a book on Fionn Mac Chuaill (but it was Americanized to Finn MacCool) this past year at the school I work at, biggest. That's part of the reason I like it so much!

I know it's a very old name but I'm not sure if it's a trendy old name IYSWIM. (Liam, Aidan, etc.) I'm not even preg but I like to be prepared! It's either that or Jack...we don't have many of them here, here every other boy is Jake.

I really fancied called DD (had she been a DS) Finn. Husband said junior's childhood would be hell if he was fat.

So she was a girl (jennifer lol) and is very thin.

MuGGGhoulWump · 30/10/2010 23:36

Fine, but boring.

One of those recent names where it's not a name, but a noise people make when talking about a baby boy.

Nice and safe, if that's what you want.

May date badly, but may not.

MelinaM · 31/10/2010 00:06

..nor Ffinian -celtic I think!

pickler · 31/10/2010 01:09

Love it. Totally inoffensive and quite handsome for a boy.

pickler · 31/10/2010 01:21

PS I doubt it will date terribly like Kai, Kaiden etc. It may date in a non-bad way though..

pilotinspector · 31/10/2010 01:43

Finbar, Finnegan, Fintan, Phineas, there are so many...

Cute NN but would use a longer form..

LoopyLoupGarou · 31/10/2010 08:36

Ffion is a Welsh girl's name, so personally I wouldn't go with Fionn for a boy.
