Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think. Sister to Rose, my favorite is Violet with one of the others for a middle name.

Girls
Elspeth
Evelyn
Hester
Hope
Luella
Ophelia
Romilly
Violet

Elspeth - like
Evelyn - like, also like Evelina
Hester - not so keen, but like Esther
Hope - like
Luella - not so keen, prefer Louisa
Ophelia - like
Romilly - prefer Emily
Violet - like

Violet Hope or Violet Evelyn would be lovely.

Thanks. Violet Evelyn is my favorite, husband hates all except Violet but he also hated Honor at first which is Rose's middle name. He is now suggesting Violet Honor as well!

Violet Hope is a nice "match" to Rose Honor.

Like Romilly a lot (wouldn't bother me same initials... could be nn Milly).
Not wild about any of the others; Luisa is a nice mix of Luella/Louisa though?

Know Evelyn is popular but I have a cantankerous aunt...

flopsy1974 · 01/07/2010 10:12

Violet and Hope are lovely

foreverastudent · 01/07/2010 10:27

DanJARMouse · 01/07/2010 10:30

Elspeth - no
Evelyn - yes
Hester - no
Hope - yes
Luella - yes
Ophelia - yes
Romilly - yes
Violet - no

Just my opinions of course!

PlodTheToastie · 01/07/2010 10:38

Romilly is beautiful
Violet is pretty
Elspeth not really sure how to pronounce it so it sounds nice, sounds disjointed but that mite be my dreadful northern accent!
Hope is nice
Ophelia sounds a bit pretentious to me, all i can hear is 'Ophelia, cucumber sandwitches and croquet on the lawn at 3 darling'
Evelyn not a very pretty sounding name, a bit harsh.
Hester.... no!!!

Hedwig3 · 01/07/2010 10:52

Violet Romilly sounds lovely.

Hope - like as middle name
Luella - I think of Cruella Deville

Elspeth - no
Evelyn - lovely
Hester - no
Hope - ok... but a bit pious
Luella - ok
Ophelia - no
Romilly - like
Violet - like

I think Violet Evelyn is lovely.

emmyloo2 · 01/07/2010 11:17

Violet is my favourite. The others are a little bit too much for me, although Hope and Luella and actually Romilly are quite nice.

Hmmm....maybe actually Violet and Romilly might be my favourites.

Thank you for all your help! I think Violet will be the first name, still not sure about middle names but have narrowed to Evelyn or Hope from my original list. Any more ideas for a middle name for Violet ideally old fashioned and under used?

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2010 22:25

I really like Violet and Ophelia. The only thing is, are you planning more DCs? Will they all have flower names? I think Violet and Rose are adorable, but if you have another DD will you have to dip into Lilac, Poppy, etc? I was just wondering, they're all pretty IMO.

mathanxiety · 01/07/2010 22:27

Aren't those the names of Hyacinth Bucket's sisters? Or is that Daisy?

sheepgomeep · 01/07/2010 23:59

I like Hester, think its a lovely name

CharlotteSo · 02/07/2010 22:00

We are not planning anymore children, however the Hyacinth Bucket comment has amused me. Maybe we'll consider Onslow if we ever have a boy!
