Hi anyday now could have ds2.
Was trying to decide between Beau and Rocco and couldn't decide!!

Now I'm thinking between Beau,Rocco and Luke!

His big brother is called Ellis James.

Also does anyone know how easy it is to change my sons surname? He has my df's surname(which is awful)and I was wondering if I could add my surname infront? He's nearly 2.

Thanks mn's

TBH, it really wouldn't have suited him, it made me feel like I was trying to hard and Luke really suits him. He is quite a no nonsense baby, and I think his name is too. The other names are a bit......flowery and my Luke is not!

Cinderellarach · 24/06/2010 16:56

Luka is great but then I feel like I'm going round in a circle and I may aswell as just stuck to Rocco(which I love) but worry that I can't get away with it as I'm not Italian!!!

Thanks for fb.

I really don't like Luke at all and agree with previous poster that it will not travel well into other languages.

In German, it would be pronounced Loo-keh, and actually means a hatch (little window), so

die Luke = the hatch.

From your list I prefer Rocco. Easy to pronounce in all languages and a bit quirky/unusual.

lovely name i think.

Rhuidean · 24/06/2010 18:25

I prefer Luke!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 24/06/2010 21:48

I commented on your last lats thread, much prefer Luke to either Rocco or Beau

LC200 · 25/06/2010 08:33

Luke is a great name and, imo, goes much better with Ellis (also a great name) than Rocco or Beau.

Cinderellarach · 25/06/2010 08:51

Thanks everyone for fb!!

Luke's a lovely name, much nicer than the other two.
Also like Lukas and Luka.

We considered it for ds3 but with two 'l' first names in the family already decided against it.

Cinderellarach · 25/06/2010 09:36

I like Luke because it's classic, normal and no-one would give me funny looks or laugh behind my back or really question the name.

Although I like Rocco as it's different, unique, not boring and can imagine a right a little character being called Rocco.

Luke would be more sensible but feel like I'm being a bit 'safe'.

I don't like Luke very much, I'm afraid. Sounds like 'look', imagine saying Look Luke .

Rocco is cool. Easy to pronounce in most languages too.

Love Luke

Cinderellarach · 25/06/2010 17:55

Thanks

Also wanted Alexander as a middle name.

Luke Alexander

I love Luke (the other names are nice.. but remind me of footballers or something.. sorry!)

sanielle · 25/06/2010 19:52

Actually... Luke is in the top ten in Austria a german speaking country and Luca in Germany

Cinderellarach · 26/06/2010 15:04

Thanks sanielle.Do you think footballers names as in what 'Wags' might call their babies or just names for footballers?

This sun is getting to my head and need this baby out now..Was even thinking of Aurelius and dh loves it but think it's quite posh! Also cannot think of a nn for it as it's a mouthful.

Do you think Rocco Aurelius Alexander is ok???

annasophia · 26/06/2010 15:46

sanielle, no Luke would not be used by a German speaker. Only Lukas.

And yes, Lukas is very, very popular in Germany and Austria.

annasophia · 26/06/2010 15:48

Here are the official Austrian statistics for last year:

1 Lukas
2 Tobias
3 David
4 Julian
5 Florian
6 Maximilian
7 Fabian
8 Alexander
9 Felix
10 Simon

annasophia · 26/06/2010 15:49

I LOVE Aurelius!

ZZZenAgain · 26/06/2010 16:04

of all the names you have mentioned, I like Luke

specialknickers · 28/06/2010 19:23

I like Luke - but I'm biased. I've got one! I liked it because it was strong, classic and wouldn't date. I was surprised at how many people liked it though and I've not met another yet, which is weird given how common it's supposed to be.

Also, totally disagree that it doesn't travel well. I live in the Netherlands at the moment and everyone here has no problem with it at all, although I do have to spell it so that he doesn't get the French "Luc" on forms.

MamaVoo · 28/06/2010 19:46

Luke is great. It's traditional but not old fashioned. I love the fact that it can't be shortened, so the chances are that he will always be called the name you have given him and not some horrible shortening of it. I have a Luc as DH is French.

I never understand the objection that a name doesn't 'travel well'. Do we need to take into account all languages - Japanese, Russian, Farsi - or just European? And why?

Luke is a great name. My DP is Luke and one of my friends has just had a Luke.

I think it's better than Rocco and Beau, especially when he gets to 30!

pitterpatterfeet · 01/07/2010 20:50

Luke much classier than Rocco or Beau.
