Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

I really like 4 letter names with 2 syllables! Please can anyone add some further suggestions!

I like Logan, Max and Theo. Not so keen on Reuben and Tor is terrible (possibly because it means goal in German, would it not normally be spelled Thor?)

I love all your girl names, particularly Esme.

I like Max for a boy, not really keen on the others to be honest.

Esme stands out of the list for girls - is lovely.

Logan- No. It's a surname and evocative of bad sci fi
Max- overused and a nickname
Reuben- again, very popular but nice
Theo- you like popular names and I know a few but it's a good name
Tor- So unlike your other choices I'm wondering if you just fell on the keyboard a bit?

Ella- noooooo. There are 8 million baby Ellas
Esme- pretty but again, very now
Isla- lovely name

I like Annie btw which doesn't fit your 4 letters thing but is so pretty. As is Sylvie.

If your name is actually 'Ellen', like your user name, then no to 'Ella'.

I like reuben from your boys list and Isla and Ella from your girls list. Not keen on the others though.

It's nice to sound out other people! Hhg I like Cara - will add that to my list! And Showoffhands I do like Annie, but my MIL is called Anne, and while she would be totally over the moon with that I'm not sure I would be. Will keep on thinking!

Max - cool (though v popular) agree with earlier post that if is a nn is good if short for Maximillian - but def not Maxwell
Reuben - not a huge fan
Theo - fun, and if short for Theodore you have the teddy nn option too
Tor - nooooo - sounds odd... sounds weird and also worth remembering that Tor is often used as a nn for Victoria (as in short for the nn Tory/Tori)

Girls
Ella - gorgeous (though v v v popular)
Esme - not a huge fan - I like 'old lady cool names' but am not sure about this one
Isla - lovely - I understand from friends that its incredibly popular in Oz at the moment

As for other ideas not sure I can add much to diplodoris's list but for girls how about:
Erin, Lexi, Katy, Lola, oh and would throw in Sasha if you are thinking of a nn name as a proper name (although its 5 letters).
As for boys... hmmm... brain has drawn a blank - can't immediately think of anything to add to diplodoris's list.
