Annabella - why not as popular as Isabella? Just as nice?

I think it's just as nice and not as widely known/used.

Do you know any?

What do you think?

Sorry but I think it sounds like a doll's name

Cortina · 23/06/2010 11:38

I've seen there are a few Annabellas around, teenagers.

To me no more of a doll's name than Arabella? Or Amelia? Which I have in my head as the doll genre but maybe not . Like the shortening 'Anna' too. Hmm.

I prefer Annabel.

All these "-bella" names make me think of Cinderella and her stepsisters.

Hedwig3 · 23/06/2010 13:16

I much prefer Annabella/Annabel to Isabella/Isabel as it doesn't sound like part of a question!

The only one I like is Annabel.

soon2be4 · 23/06/2010 13:32

Its lovely! We were going to use Annabel but found out we r having a boy. Think its a beautiful name. Annabel and Annabella both

diplodoris · 23/06/2010 19:44

I really like it Even nicer than Isabella.

cakeywakey · 23/06/2010 19:59

It always makes me think of Fallabella ponies. It's also too much like two names run into each other. Much prefer Isabella as it's got more definition when spoken out loud.

CerealOffender · 23/06/2010 20:02

annabel is too rah. makes me think of dirty posh girls in the 90's boring on about their year out in india/thailand/south america. therefore i dislike it.

IngaLand · 23/06/2010 20:24

Too fussy.

Isabella used rto make me think of Rosselini. Now it's very popular, but still quite a 'classic' name.

Annabella sounds like she'd be friends with Barbie and Cindy.

Wanderingsheep · 23/06/2010 20:41

I like Annabella. Annabel was on our list for DD but we went for Isabel instead.

WhatShallMyNameBe · 23/06/2010 22:21

DD is formally Annabella. We chose it because we were looking for a long name for Annie and we quite liked Bella as a nn as well, if she wants to change to that in future (I really wanted Annalies but DH didn't like it).

I must admit though that I do cringe a bit when her name is called out at the Dr's, as it does for some reason sound a bit more pretentious than Isabella. But she is always Annie, so I suppose it doesn't really matter

flopsy1974 · 24/06/2010 11:57

I think it's lovey but would go for Anabel. Annabella may sound a little childish when she gets older.
Much prefer it to Isablella by the way.

PrincessMaddi · 24/06/2010 12:27

i know a Annabelle, i agree it is as pretty as Isabella but i would say Isabella is a bit more dainty sounding.

thedollyridesout · 24/06/2010 12:29

Perhaps people prefer 'Izzy' to 'Annie' - I know I do.

Cortina · 24/06/2010 16:13

Anna is the obvious nm isn't it? Not sure. Thanks for feedback.

Does anyone know of any under 5?

OP posts:
violethill · 24/06/2010 18:09

Annabel is far nicer IMO. And I think Annie sounds a million times nicer than Izzy

GroovyGretel · 24/06/2010 18:27

My dd has Amabelle for a middle name - yup with an m...it means beautifully loved.

She was my pfb

Magalyxyz · 24/06/2010 22:27

I prefer just Annabel, but I also prefer Isabel to Isabella. Less is more sometimes.

Rockbird · 25/06/2010 20:04

Too much. Annabel stops just at the edge of fussiness. The bella on the end goes past it.

megonthemoon · 25/06/2010 20:24

Arabella, Anabella, Isabella, anything -bella are all way too princessy. Loathe them. Annabel and Isobel much better. Although I do like just Bella, so my opinion is clearly not to be trusted on this

chenge · 25/06/2010 21:21

living in a scandinavian country, any name with Bella ending is much more beautiful coz its foreign,,i named my baby Isabella and the name suits her,,she is a mixed race child and all the names we had on paper did not suit her,,when i tell people what her name is,they always find it beautiful,,even my MIL who has never found anything good to say about me thinks i gave her a good name..

Anabella,,rather not say much

muminthemiddle · 25/06/2010 23:56

Prefer Annabel but Annabella is nice too.

Kathleen123 · 28/06/2010 12:24

Annabella is a beautiful name, but so it Isabella

ZZZenAgain · 28/06/2010 12:26

it's a bit too much for me

don't really know why
