Medi for a girl (tis welsh)

Would you only use Medi as a girl's name if she was born in September??? - Have seen a thread further down re: calling a girl Tuesday and people are saying no don't do it, and you could only call her that if born on a Tues etc. I have an Aunty June (true, born in June, but I'd never thought of that before) and know lots of 'Mai's not born in May. So would I only have a 1/12 chance of using this as a girl's name or would people not think of it like that do you think? - I love the name, but have never known any Medi's so would be interested in your thoughts thanks.

I know quite a few girls/women called Medi, and DS1 would have been Ffion Medi if he had been a girl. He was born in September.

I have a niece whose middle name is Haf who was born in November though!

DD is Ffion . I must admit I've always liked the idea of a Sept baby so thought it would be apt if DC3 is a girl, whenever born (not yet pg, just at the planning stage). Yes, forgot about Haf, I know stacks of them too, and their birthdays are all year through.

I think it's very pretty. I love Welsh names (although not Welsh). I didnt know it's meaning, but I think it's lovely and you should go for it.

If you love it that's reason enough. I have heard it before and knew a Medi, its a super name, I love it, (being of welsh parenthood)
Other good Celtic ones are Angharad, Ceri or Cerys,Ceridwen and Rhiannon.Not sure all are spelt totally correctly but i've given it my best shot... In my experience.kids never like either the name you have given them or their second name anyway so just decide what you like,

Well my two boys are called Rhys Wyn and Siôn Euros. Other boys names that I liked were Steffan, Osian, Ifan, Cai and Llyr.

Medi Fflur is nice?

DD is Carys Angharad. If the boys had been girls they would have been Ffion Medi and Manon Fflur.

I think you should call a girl Manon. All the best people are called Manon.

Medi is lovely! I think I'd have a Sian if I ever had a girl.

My cousin is Medi Wyn (born September). It's a lovely name. Liking Fflur too - DD's middle name was almost Fflur but with monoglot English DH and in-laws I thought it was perhaps too much of a mouthful so settled on G*** Haf instead (born August!).

My grandfather was Brynley Rosser, thats a good bit of welsh for you...David is lovely but I'm biased cos thats my son's name, but he would have been Sian..

One drawback of Manon that I hadn't though of comes from my (adult )friend who whenever she says her name to a man in a bar or at a party gets "ha ha ha Man on top" as a response,or similar.

Good God, what kind of parties does your friend go to? I've never had that... Though I have had "Manon The Moon!" and "man oooon" in manner of footballers...

I like the name Awst too (August in Welsh).

Oh hellymelly, I didn't know you had a Manon! It's a great name, I love it. People seem to think I'm very sophisticated and cool until they meet me.

We have had the football Man oooon too.From DH's cousin who didn't like the name at all.But it really suits my tiny regal daughter.And although when we lived in London everyone pronounced it the French way,at least back in the land of our fathers its not unusual (haha accidental Tom Jones ref there).Very welsh speaking area here,so a lot of welsh names.Very nice to meet another Manon!

Now am liking Gwawr Haf, I have known a Gwawr at school.But I don't think Medi Gwawr would go. I did like Medi Haf, but not too sure the meanings would go together. Medi Manon might not have quite the right ring to it either, but of course Manon is a super name But DH is liking Medi Fflur, so thanks helyg again.

altho' after todays budget, am not sure if little Medi will be on the way anytime soon

Am I right in thinking you're in Pembs hellymelly? I know a little Manon that started out life in London too, they're in Cardiff now. It's quite cool to have it pronounced the French way, makes me feel far more sophisticated than I am...

Yes I'm in Pembs.Its lovely, I'm starting to remember some of my lost welsh which is great as dd1 is at a Welsh speaking primary.We intended to move back when we had dd1 but in the end Manon was 7m by the time we made the leap.

Lovely names on here, my cousin has just named her DD Anest and also has a Heledd and a Euros.

Boys in the family are: Euros, Huw, Osian, Dewi, Steffan, Iolo.
