It is a lovely name

so is Hester

Lionstar · 15/06/2010 21:14

Lovely. I know one with nn Tessie, and another with nn Ellie/Elle

LuluF · 15/06/2010 21:18

I think it's a lovely name - my greatgrandmother's name.

I'm only put of it slightly by Madonna who took it as her Kaballah name - but I may have been the only person to have read that...

cece · 15/06/2010 21:19

Lovely

DrivenToDistraction · 15/06/2010 21:26

Love Esther!

Unfortunately DP finds it harsh (in his language rather than in English) and was not to be covinced.

Acanthus · 15/06/2010 21:27

Lovely.

ArseHolio · 15/06/2010 21:28

Love Esther

katiecubs · 15/06/2010 21:29

Love it! Also love Hester and Aster.

LuluF · 15/06/2010 21:40

Ettie is very cute.

coffeefestival · 15/06/2010 21:45

I quite like it.

Also like Estella and Aurora.

bednobs · 15/06/2010 21:52

Like the sound of it but prefer the spelling Hester. Ettie is great. dh vetoed this for me.

DrivenToDistraction · 15/06/2010 21:54

Ettie is lovely.

katiecubs · 15/06/2010 21:54

Is Hester pronounced the same then? i.e just a differant spelling of esther?

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 15/06/2010 22:01

I don't like Ettie. I'd just use Esther which I love.
I don't see the need for a nickname.

SoBloodyTired · 15/06/2010 22:04

I love it. DP doesn't. There's a theme on this thread [mutters about bloody men and their crap taste]

LittleWhiteWolf · 15/06/2010 22:06

Love it; its the name of Judy Garlands character in Meet Me In St Louis. DH isnt keen, but I think its gorgeous!

LilMagill · 15/06/2010 22:06

Beautiful! Tessie is so sweet as a nickname, love that idea. Not so keen on Ettie myself, feels a bit bland/Victorian scullerymaid but I know I'm overly picky.

katiecubs Hester is pronounced like its spelt, with the 'h' (at least that's how I've heard it).

katiecubs · 15/06/2010 22:08

funnily my DP actually really likes it!

Great name. Some sort of biblical queen, isn't it? Another one here whose dp vetoed it.

singsinthebath · 15/06/2010 23:11

Makes me think of Esther Rantzen

jasper · 16/06/2010 00:00

fabulous name

telsa · 16/06/2010 00:15

All the Esthers I have ever known did not have nicknames or diminutives. It is a lovely name - stems from the Persian queen who saved the Jews from genocide.

mathanxiety · 16/06/2010 04:32

Lovely, and will become more popular, imo. It was in the top 20 in NYC a couple of years ago. I love Etta as a nn (love Etta James...)
